If I could gently ask you to take a step back and ponder on those travel milestones you have had in the past and even for your upcoming ones, does your list ever included an itinerary that comes with an awareness and protection of the environment?
Did you know that tourism contributes to a gigantic pie of global warming which we are experiencing now? Air travel is responsible for 40% of the total carbon emissions; the hotel sector emits 20% of carbon; and tours account to 4% of carbon emissions.
Cruise ships are also the major tourism pollutants as it dumps wastes into the ocean ultimately destroying the beaches, contaminating the coral reefs, and destroying the marine life.
More than money, traveling nowadays incurs a cost that comes in the form of pollution. Most tourists are not aware that as they pollute the environment, the hazards come back to them in various forms and directly affecting their health.
Check out this awareness campaign about the rising pollution in the oceans endangering the richness of our marine life and destroying the future of our next generations.
A very touching art piece by Biboy Royong, the Creative Director of Dentsu Jayme Syfu, entitled “The Cry of the Dead Whale” is now on exhibit at the front lawn of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Local and foreign tourists are encouraged to visit this exhibit just at the heart of Manila.
The aim of the art piece will change the way how people treat traveling simply as leisure and lifestyle. The message of the Dead Whale art piece is very clear – that responsible traveling produces greater meaning in life and that a clean environment is the “right of every individual” especially of our young ones.
So why do we have to pollute the environment that intends to sustain the lives of our children?
Travelers, be proud to share your journeys to Sustainable Tourism and become instruments of a cleaner earth that will not cost our health and the health of our loved ones as we travel from anywhere in the world.
Do include this tourism exhibit in your itineraries this summer and learn to sympathize with the trauma faced by our co-inhabitants on earth caused by our irresponsible traveling. Let us have compassion for the wildlife and marine life.
Take a trip to this exhibit from April 25 to May 26, 2019 and get more details from the CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES - CRY OF THE DEAD WHALE ART PIECE
